About

Josh currently is an assistant professor in the department of Ancient Scripture with an appointment to the Jerusalem Center at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah. Previous to his time at BYU, Josh taught with Seminaries and Institutes of Religion for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Josh’s previous assignments within Seminaries and Institutes included Seminary instructor, Institute Instructor, and the Director of the Tallahassee Institute of Religion.

Josh holds a PhD in Religion from Florida State University with an emphasis in Religions of Western Antiquity and a minor in American Religious History. Josh also holds a Master of Arts degree from Trinity Western University in Biblical Studies and a Bachelor of Arts degree with University Honors from Brigham Young University in Ancient Near Eastern Studies.

While completing research for his dissertation on the status of the Hebrew Bible Minor Prophets in the late Second Temple period, Josh lived with his family in the Holy Land and was a research associate with the Scripta Qumranica Electronica project at the University of Haifa and an Orion Center for the Study of the Dead Sea Scrolls Scholar at the Hebrew University of Jerusalem.

Originally from Chubbuck, Idaho, Josh married the former Erin Barnes and together they are the parents of four children, twin daughters (Lydia and Emma) and sons (Brigham and Jacob). Josh attended Pocatello High School where he was a varsity athlete and student leader. He served as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Canada Calgary Mission and has been a youth trip leader for humanitarian projects around the world. Josh loves books (especially signed ones), running, traveling, and sports.
